We're thrilled to announce our third single, Hurricane, has officially hit the charts as of May 30th.

Hurricane is a song about the age-old struggle of catching feelings for someone you definitely shouldn't. We've all been there.

Inspired by the Tarot card representing destruction (The Tower), Hurricane is an epic outpouring of emotion which we hope will become an instant anthem for anyone who has ever experienced the sheer horror of falling for someone you know is bad news.

And isn't it
A wicked art?
The way you touch my body
And it stains my heart?

The Story:

Hurricane has been a real struggle to complete. I (Jules) first wrote the song in 2020 after the end of a fleeting situationship which meant more to me than it had any right to. At the time, I was taking inspiration from Lorde's Liability, and pictured it falling much more into the category of a sad piano pop song.

Thankfully, the band knocked some sense into me. When we played it together for the first time, it became pretty clear that it was always meant to be a rock song. Then came almost four years of recording, re-recording, starting from scratch, and re-recording again. Nothing we did ever seemed to capture the true vision for the song - a powerful, moving monument to the raw emotion of unrequited feelings.

Today, I'm thrilled to share that Hurrricane is finally ready to spend its time in the limelight. While there are still a million things I can imagine myself changing about it, at a certain point as an artist you have to step back and decide - this is as good as I can make it, and I need to trust myself.

The end result? A catchy, deeply relatable anthem that (I hope) will ring true for all of the people who have gone through something similar.

And isn't it
A tragedy?
The way you draw from me
A symphony
Like the touch of a hurricane
To the sea
(Drown me, drown me)

The Inspiration: Tarot and Folklore

As with all our songs, Hurricane is inspired by a specific Tarot card. Like Empress and Gasoline, the inspiration for this song is also Major Arcana - but this time with a very different theme.

Hurricane was inspired by 'The Tower', a card which represents danger, destruction and unexpected change.

Those themes build to a breaking point in the song’s epix climax, with a symphony of drums and pulsing bass giving it that extra powerful kick.

The cover art for Hurricane truely captures that feeling of raw emotion, with a tower substituted for a jagged mountain - immovable, inflexible, incapable of love.

My wonderful partner Emilio donated his artistic skills to this project - it must be said, the concept sketch I gave him was nowhere near this cool.

I've been drawn to you
Like the pull of the tide
Now I'm swimming in the dark,
salt water in my eyes

My Dream

I really hope that people take a moment to listen to this song and help Sophie and I get a little closer to achieving our dreams.

Hurricane, Gasoline and Empress were all meant to be part of the the one album.

I still have aspirations to do this one day - in my head, it's called 'Neighbourhood Gods', but releasing an album before you have a following is apparently industry suicide. (Oops - sounds like I set Midas up to fail). SO, here we are, with an album of songs ready to drop and an industry screaming at us not to drop them all. Our compromise? We'll be dropping one song every month or so until we've released the full album!

What’s Next?

We are working our tooshies off to get our name out there and try and build up an audience who will come to our shows. We just kicked off a few fun gigs in Sydney at the Sneaky Possum, we took a road trip down to Wollongong for a fun show at Society City, and on June 28th we have the biggest news yet: OUR FIRST HEADLINE SHOW!

This is incredible and so scary for us, especially as such a young band just starting out. So far, we've only sold 13/70 tickets - so best believe we're getting nervous!

If you're able to come and support, it would mean the world to us for you to be there for what will be such a special moment in our lives. Here are the details:

We'll be celebrating a brand new release called 'Magician' - and you'll want to hold onto your hats for this one. Magician is a bit lighter than what we typically have focused on, with a more traditional pop sound and happy, intriguing melodies. I wrote Magician during my HSC (many, many years ago) and it's all about the fear of living up to your own expectations for yourself, as well as the expectations that other people have placed on you. But more on that to come ...

Magician will be released on June 27, the night before our headline gig! And that's not all, folks - here is a sneaky list of the songs you can expect to see hitting your Release Radar in the near future:

  • Magician

  • The World

  • The Clown

And many more to come!

Finally, I want to thank you for reading this all the way to the end.

I appreciate the generosity of your attention, and I hope that you can find in Hurricane as much love as Sophie and I put into it.

In summary, If you're a lover of tarot, a music enthusiast, or simply someone in search of a fresh new sound, I hope that Hurricane will prove to be an instant playlist add.

Let me know what you think!
